How to Choose a Modded Minecraft Server in 2026

Every modded server list shows you the same thing: a banner, a player count and a vote button. None of that tells you whether your base will still exist next month. Having run a modded network for years, we know exactly which questions separate servers worth investing hundreds of hours in from servers that quietly die in six weeks. Here they are, honestly, including how to grill us on each one.

The five things that actually matter

  • Uptime and hardware: modded servers are heavy, and shared budget hosting shows up as rubber-banding the moment a second player builds a mob farm
  • Active staff: not just names on a page, but visible recent activity in Discord and in-game moderation
  • The monetisation model: whether money buys power or just cosmetics decides the entire social fabric of a server
  • Grief protection: land claims that are on by default, not a plugin the server owner promises to configure someday
  • Update and reset policy: how the server handles modpack updates and whether world resets are announced, planned and rare

Player count, notably, is not on the list. A stable 30-player community beats a 200-player server with weekly drama and monthly wipes for every kind of player except merchants of drama.

Red flags you can spot in ten minutes

  • The store sells gameplay power: spawners, claim-bypass, exclusive machines or flight. Pay-to-win servers optimise for buyers, not players
  • The Discord's last announcement is months old, or questions in the help channel go unanswered
  • No rules page, or rules that are one line long. Ambiguity always resolves in favour of whoever griefed you
  • A history of unannounced world wipes; check the announcements channel scroll-back before you commit
  • Staff who are invisible in chat logs. Absent staff and toxic chat arrive as a pair
The fastest test of any server: join the Discord and read the last two weeks of messages before you ever install the pack. Communities cannot fake their own backlog.

Questions to ask before you settle in

  1. When was the last world reset, and how was it communicated?
  2. What happens to my claim if I go inactive for a month?
  3. How fast does the server adopt modpack updates, and are they announced in advance?
  4. Is anything sold in the store that affects gameplay balance?
  5. What is the actual restart schedule and typical uptime?

A good server answers all five without getting defensive, usually because the answers are already written down somewhere public.

Why the pack itself is part of the choice

The same server can be great for one pack and wrong for another. Kitchen-sink packs like All The Mods reward servers with long-lived worlds and strong claims, hardcore packs like RLCraft need clear death and grief rules, and skyblock packs need per-island protection to work at all. Check that the server's rules and infrastructure were actually built for the pack you want to play, not copy-pasted across every server in the network.

How SiriusMC measures up

We would fail our own guide if we did not answer our own questions. SiriusMC is free to play with a cosmetics-and-claims store and no gameplay power for sale. Every server has land claims and grief protection on by default, worlds are long-lived with resets treated as a last resort and announced well in advance, and our staff are active in-game and on Discord daily. Our uptime and vote-site track record is public on the server lists, and the last two weeks of our Discord are open for exactly the test we recommended above.

If that matches what you are looking for, our modded Minecraft servers page lists every pack we run, from All The Mods 10 to Tekkit 2, RLCraft and StoneBlock 4, with joining guides for each.
