How to Join a Tekkit 2 Server (Step-by-Step)

Tekkit 2 is the official sequel to the classic Tekkit modpack, built on Minecraft 1.12.2 and distributed through the Technic platform. It bundles over a hundred mods focused on industry, automation and engineering, including modern revivals of the classics that made the original Tekkit famous. Joining a public Tekkit 2 server takes about 10 minutes, and this guide walks you through every step, from installing the Technic Launcher to spawning in on the SiriusMC Tekkit 2 server.

What is Tekkit 2?

Tekkit 2 is a community-made sequel to the original Tekkit, created by xJon and hosted on the Technic platform. It runs on Minecraft 1.12.2, which is widely considered the sweet spot of modded Minecraft: stable, well-optimised and home to mature versions of the biggest tech mods. The pack gathers nostalgic classics such as IndustrialCraft 2, BuildCraft, ProjectE (the successor to Equivalent Exchange) and Project Red, alongside additions like Galacticraft for space exploration.

If you played the original Tekkit years ago, Tekkit 2 will feel instantly familiar: mine resources, build machines, automate everything, then fly to the Moon. If you are new to modded Minecraft entirely, it is one of the friendliest tech packs to learn because its core mods are well documented and the in-game recipe viewer shows you how to craft everything.

What you need before you start

Tekkit 2 is far lighter than modern kitchen-sink packs, so you do not need a monster PC. Three things are required: a Minecraft Java Edition account, the Technic Launcher, and a computer with a reasonable amount of RAM.

  • Minecraft Java Edition account (Bedrock will not work, Tekkit 2 is Java-only)
  • The Technic Launcher, free from technicpack.net
  • 8 GB of system RAM is comfortable; the pack itself only needs 3-4 GB allocated
  • A stable internet connection for the initial modpack download

Step 1: Install the Technic Launcher

Tekkit 2 is distributed through the Technic platform, so you install it with the Technic Launcher rather than CurseForge. The launcher is free and handles the whole modpack download for you.

  1. Go to technicpack.net and download the Technic Launcher for your operating system
  2. Run the installer and open the launcher
  3. Log in with the Microsoft account that owns your Minecraft license

Step 2: Install Tekkit 2

  1. In the Technic Launcher, click the Modpacks tab at the top
  2. Type "Tekkit 2" into the search box
  3. Select Tekkit 2 from the results (check it is the official pack by xJon, not a copy)
  4. Click Install in the bottom right corner and wait for the download to finish
Make sure your Tekkit 2 version matches the version our server runs. The Technic Launcher installs the latest release by default; if the server has not updated yet, you can pick an older build from the gear icon next to the pack. Check the SiriusMC Tekkit 2 server page for the exact version.

Step 3: Allocate memory and launch

Because Tekkit 2 runs on 1.12.2, it is much less memory-hungry than modern packs. Around 3-4 GB of allocated RAM is plenty; going far beyond that can actually hurt performance on 1.12.2 because of how Java garbage collection works.

  1. In the Technic Launcher, click Launcher Options in the top right
  2. Open the Java Settings tab
  3. Set Memory to 3 GB (or 4 GB if you have 16 GB of system RAM)
  4. Close the options, select Tekkit 2 and click Play

Step 4: Add the SiriusMC Tekkit 2 server

  1. On the Minecraft title screen, click Multiplayer
  2. Click Add Server
  3. Set the server name to "SiriusMC Tekkit 2" (or anything you like)
  4. In Server Address, paste the IP listed on our Tekkit 2 server page
  5. Click Done, then double-click the new entry to join

SiriusMC is free to join with no whitelist, so you can connect the moment the pack finishes loading. PvP is disabled and land claims with grief protection are enabled, which means your machines and sorting systems are safe while you are offline. The server runs 24/7 and has a player-driven economy with shops, so you can trade your surplus resources once your factory gets going.

Troubleshooting

Most connection problems come down to a version mismatch or a launcher issue. If something goes wrong, run through this list before anything else, and if you are still stuck, ask in our Discord at discord.com/invite/SiriusMC where staff and players can help.

  • "Outdated client/server", your Tekkit 2 version does not match the server, reinstall the matching build
  • "Connection refused", the server may be restarting, wait 60 seconds and try again
  • Crash on launch, raise allocated memory to 4 GB in Launcher Options > Java Settings
  • Launcher stuck on download, restart the Technic Launcher and try the install again
  • Missing mods error, delete the pack via the gear icon and reinstall it fresh

Want even more mods? Try Tekkit SMP

SiriusMC also runs a Tekkit SMP server. Tekkit SMP is an expanded edition of Tekkit 2 that keeps the full Tekkit 2 mod line-up and adds extras such as Thaumcraft, Mystcraft and Mo' Creatures on top. If you love the Tekkit 2 formula but want magic and exploration alongside the tech, it is worth a look. Both servers are listed on our servers page, and your Technic Launcher setup from this guide works for either pack. Once you are in game, read the rules with /rules, claim some land and start building your first factory.
